How it works

The Norwegian krone (norske kroner, code NOK, written "kr" in Norway) is the currency of Norway, which does not use the euro. This converter changes an amount between NOK and the euro, the US dollar, the pound, the Swedish, Danish and Swiss currencies, the yen and the Polish zloty. It uses Norges Bank's mid-market rates (midtkurs) from 25 September 2026, saved on the site. That means it is not a live rate and not the rate your bank charges. You can enter a markup to see roughly what an exchange or a card payment would cost.

What a markup costs you

Banks and card companies earn money on currency by using a worse rate than the mid-market rate, and some also charge a fee. The markup varies between banks and cards and is in the price list. The table shows what EUR 1,000 costs in kroner at different markups, based on the 25 September 2026 mid-market rate.

Paying abroad: choose the local currency

When a terminal or cash machine abroad asks whether to charge you in kroner or in the local currency, choose the local currency. If you pick kroner, the local bank or shop sets the rate. The Norwegian Consumer Council estimates that this typically costs a markup of six to seven percent. Take a dinner that costs EUR 85. At the mid-market rate that is NOK 921.40. With a 7% markup it becomes NOK 985.90, which is NOK 64.50 more for one meal. Your own bank will still add its markup on top of the mid-market rate when you pay in the local currency, but that is usually much smaller.

What this calculator does not cover

It does not show live or historical rates, the buying and selling rates of a particular bank, transfer fees, cash exchange fees, or the rate used by the Tax Administration or Customs for a specific purpose. Norges Bank publishes about 40 currencies, and this page converts eight. For tax or customs, use the rate the authority prescribes. The saved rates date from 25 September 2026, and the result can differ noticeably from today's market.

Frequently asked questions

How much is 100 euros in Norwegian kroner?
At Norges Bank's mid-market rate of 10.84 kroner per euro on 25 September 2026, EUR 100 is NOK 1,084.00, and NOK 1,000 buys EUR 92.25. This page does not update itself every day, so check Norges Bank for today's rate. Your bank will use its own rate, normally a little worse than the mid rate.
How much is 100 US dollars in Norwegian kroner?
With Norges Bank's mid rate on 25 September 2026 (9.5063 kroner per dollar), USD 100 is NOK 950.63. NOK 1,000 buys USD 105.19. If you pay by card, the card issuer adds a markup to the rate, so the amount on your statement is somewhat higher.
What is the mid-market rate (midtkurs)?
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buying and selling rate in the interbank market. Norges Bank publishes it for about 40 currencies on every banking day, at around 16:00 Central European Time. Norges Bank says the rates are indicative only and not binding on it or on other banks. When you exchange money or pay by card, your bank uses its own rate, normally the mid-market rate plus a markup.
Why is the rate I get at my bank different from this calculator?
This calculator uses the plain mid-market rate with no markup, saved on 25 September 2026. Banks, exchange offices and card companies add a markup or a fee, and their rate moves during the day. Enter your bank's or card's markup in the markup field to see what you actually pay. On EUR 1,000, a 3% markup adds about NOK 325.
Should I pay in Norwegian kroner or in the local currency abroad?
Always choose the local currency. If you choose kroner at the terminal or cash machine (dynamic currency conversion), the local bank or shop sets the exchange rate. The Norwegian Consumer Council says this typically corresponds to a markup of six to seven percent, close to four times as expensive as the standard rate of the payment cards. On a EUR 85 dinner, a 7% markup costs NOK 64.50 extra. Choose "no conversion" or "pay in local currency" when asked.
Is this a live exchange rate?
No. The rates are Norges Bank mid-market rates from 25 September 2026, stored on the site. They are useful for a rough answer, for example to compare prices or salaries, but not for a transfer or a contract. For today's rate, use Norges Bank's exchange rate page or your bank's own rate.
How much is 1,000 Swedish kronor in Norwegian kroner?
SEK 1,000 was NOK 960.10 on 25 September 2026, at a rate of NOK 96.01 per SEK 100. Norges Bank quotes the Swedish and Danish krona, the Swiss franc and the Japanese yen per 100 units, while the euro, dollar, pound and zloty are quoted per unit. This calculator shows all rates per single unit.
